Inside the Vision of Marci | Founder Notes by Jill
Creativity & Behind-the-Scenes Reflections
Marcí Consulting began with a favor—helping friends create their first fashion pieces. That one gesture evolved into a creative partnership, a full-circle fashion journey, and today, a thriving consulting studio supporting ethical and emerging fashion brands worldwide.
With a degree from the London College of Fashion and hands-on experience in sustainable fashion, I found my footing in London’s 180 Soho House—surrounded by bold ideas, fresh labels, and nonstop inspiration. That’s where I realized my true calling: helping others turn fashion ideas into powerful, market-ready collections.
In this Founder Notes feature, I’m sharing the deeper story behind the Marcí brand—why I created it, what sustainability means to me, and how consulting became a key part of the journey. Whether you’re a conscious consumer or an emerging designer, here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the mission behind Marcí.
What inspired you to start a sustainable fashion brand, and what does sustainability mean to you in the context of fashion?
Jill:
At the London College of Fashion, I saw a gap. High-end fashion was glamorous but often didn’t consider the environment. This got me thinking: Why can't style and sustainability go hand in hand? That’s how Marcí was born. Our first collection used natural materials like pineapple and wood fibres, showing that fashion can be both stylish and eco-conscious.
As we grow, we’re keen to explore more innovative materials, like banana fibres. For Marcí, fashion isn’t just about looking good—it’s about doing good too. It’s a personal mission to create a better, more stylish world with less waste and more meaning.
I heard the name Marci has a very special meaning. Can you tell us more?
Jill:
Absolutely. Naming the brand Marcí was my way of honouring my mother. She was my best friend and an incredible source of inspiration. We were extremely close, and I lost her to breast cancer. When I began building the brand, I wanted it to carry her spirit—her love, strength, and elegance.
Marcí is more than a name. It’s a tribute. It reminds me daily of why I do this work and who I’m doing it for.
What’s your long-term vision for Marci as a sustainable fashion brand?
Jill:
The journey of Marcí has always been forward-looking. Our long-term goal is to be at the forefront of sustainable fashion—blending traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge, transparent technology.
A major milestone ahead is building partnerships with farmers and suppliers committed to full transparency, especially in the biodegradation and circular lifecycle of garments. We want our customers to understand the impact of every piece they wear.
In the digital space, I’m excited to introduce 3D garment development and virtual try-on features. This will create a more immersive and sustainable shopping experience, while reducing waste during the development process.
What led you to start offering fashion consulting services?
Jill:
It started so naturally—just helping friends who had ideas but didn’t know where to begin. That turned into a few tech packs, some sourcing advice, and eventually full collection development support. I realized there was a real need for fashion consulting that was kind, strategic, and rooted in real-world industry experience.
Now, through Marcí Consulting, I help founders build brands that are not only beautiful but sustainable, thoughtful, and intentional.
What are some challenges you’ve faced as a designer and founder?
Jill:
Wearing multiple hats—designer, strategist, founder—can be incredibly rewarding but also exhausting. The biggest challenge is maintaining creative energy while managing the technical and business side of fashion. But that’s why mindfulness is a big part of my process. Morning yoga, nature walks, and journaling keep me grounded and connected to my purpose.
Another challenge is resisting the pressure to scale too quickly. I believe in building slow, meaningful fashion. It takes longer, but it’s more fulfilling and sustainable in every sense.
Any advice for designers or brands just starting out in the ethical fashion space?
Jill:
Start with clarity. Know your values and let them guide every decision—from fabrics to messaging to pricing. You don’t have to do everything at once. A focused, intentional capsule collection is a strong foundation.
Also, don’t be afraid to show the messy, in-between moments. People connect with stories, not just products. Let your audience in on the process—it builds trust and long-term loyalty.
Final Thoughts
Marcí was never just about clothes. It’s about honoring legacy, uplifting new designers, and redefining what luxury fashion can mean in a conscious world.
If you’re a founder building a purpose-driven collection—or someone who values design with depth—I’d love to connect.
